Have You Asked These Four Questions Yet?

By Jeremy Tiers, Vice President of Admissions Services

1 minute read

When it comes to your admitted but undecided student population, the last thing you should ever do is sit back and assume this group has all the information they need to choose their college.

Tudor Collegiate Strategies survey research has revealed that many of those students have concerns they haven’t shared, things they’re still wondering about, as well as fears like making the wrong decision.

The most effective way to ignite a conversation and learn more about a student’s mindset and their decision-making process involves asking direct questions that are narrow and not too open ended.

Below are four questions that I encourage you to ask your admits if you haven’t already done so. When it comes to how you ask each one, I would suggest that you insert a question into your first sentence of an upcoming email or text message. Doing that focuses their attention towards action.

  • What’s turning out to be the hardest part of this whole college search so far?
  • What are you still trying to figure out about our school?
  • If you had to choose today, what might be a reason you wouldn’t pick our school?
  • What do you want to see happen next?

If you want to generate some immediate feedback and cultivate stronger relationships with some or all of your admitted students, put this strategy into action.
