5 Questions You Need To Ask Junior Inquiries

By Jeremy Tiers, Vice President of Admissions Services

 1 minute read

During the training workshops we lead for admissions and enrollment marketing teams, one of the things we discuss at length is the importance of asking direct questions at different stages of the college search.

When you ask the right kinds of questions, students will share all kinds of useful information about the things they want (and don’t want), what their concerns are, and how they’re feeling about things like setting up a campus visit or filling out applications.

With that in mind, here are five questions I strongly encourage you to ask rising seniors as your communication with them increases.

  • What are you picturing college to be like?
  • What are one or two things that kind of worry you when you think about the college search process?
  • At this point, what kinds of colleges do you see being completely wrong for you?
  • What kind of community and atmosphere do you want your future college to have?

The last one is a great question to ask a few days before a student visits your campus – What are you looking forward to hearing about most when you visit campus?

If you get good feedback and aren’t sure where to steer the conversation next, send me a note at jeremy@dantudor.com and I’ll send you some FREE advice.

And if you found this article helpful, please forward it to someone else on your campus who could also benefit from reading it.
