Each time I lead a student recruitment workshop, the last thing I have attendees do is share different action points – things they want to start, or stop, doing.
One of the most popular answers that gets mentioned just about every single time is the need to come up with better, and more direct, questions to ask different groups of students.
When a question is worded the right way, students will share all kinds of useful and useable information. They’ll tell you exactly what they want and don’t want, what their concerns are, as well as what’s holding them up from taking the next step.
With that in mind, here are four questions you should ask rising seniors.
You can ask these questions when a student visits campus this summer, or as your call to action in an upcoming email or text message.
- How did you become interested in going to college?
- What worries you the most when you think about your college search?
- What kind of atmosphere and community do you want your future college to have?
- What’s something you wish colleges and universities would talk about more when they send you information?
Each of those questions will give you important insights into a student’s mindset.
