Two Great Questions to Ask After Prospects Visit Campus

by Dan Christensen, Tudor Collegiate Strategies

So, you planned the visit, the recruit came to campus, and mom and dad have taken them home. What now? Hopefully if things went well, you asked them if they are ready to verbally commit. If you didn’t or they said “not yet”, here are two great questions to help you get useful feedback after your recruit is back home:

1) “If you came back for another visit, what would you want to do again and what would you like to see that you didn’t get the chance to?”

Take a very close listen to their answer. If they tell you there are a few things they wish they could have done or seen, that could actually be a good sign. The fact that they are thinking through aspects of being on your campus means just that, they are picturing themselves being on your campus! These things they feel they missed also give you a clear path to what you have left to prove to make the sale.

If they don’t give much feedback, positive or negative, and don’t say they would love to spend time with the team again, it may be an indication you’re not at the top of their list.

If nothing else, their answer will hopefully give you insights for planning visits with future recruits.

2) “As you think about making your college decision, what is your biggest fear about that choice?”

Every prospect has some kind of fear about their college decision. Even the calm, cool, and collected recruit has some things they are unsure and worried about.

Help them work through whatever their fears may be. You’ve hopefully made a good connection with this player on their visit. They might be more willing to give you a more honest answer at this point in the recruiting process. It is also a great question to dig deeper and build trust so you don’t lose that strong connection you made with the prospect on their campus visit
