What do college coaches need to know about student-athlete attitudes towards recruiting and choosing a program in the age of COVID-19 and the national crisis it has caused during the spring and summer of 2020?
That was the question we wanted to answer in our latest national study for college coaches tasked with recruiting student-athletes, and interacting with their current team, during the COVID-19 crisis gripping the country.
The challenge for college athletic departments is significant: Continue to bring in quality prospects to compete in their program, and retain their current student-athletes, all while dealing with budget cuts, limitations on campus visits, and working remotely. Not only do their rosters depend on it, but many college campuses depend on their athletic departments to help them fund campus through student-athlete enrollment.
To give coaches the information they need in order to be successful at this core part of their job as coaches, we conducted focus group surveys of recruited and current college student-athletes.
